Asher Sizemore is a composer and performer based in Chicago. Her music blends interests in electronic, pop, and experimental genres, informed by her background as a producer, songwriter, and performer. Her music is often performed in non-traditional spaces, such as at house parties, in bars, and in queer clubs. She draws inspiration from queer culture, literature, and social commentary.
She has worked with ensembles such as the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Red Clay Saxophone Quartet, Present~Continuous, and the 2+1 Trio. Asher’s piece, Six Graces, was featured on Matt Haimovitz’s Grammy-Nominated Album, Primavera I: The Wind, published by Oxingale Music in 2023. Her works have been performed at Colorado State University, La Universidad Nacional de La Plata, and from the back of a pickup truck in Marfa, Texas. Asher works collaboratively as a studio musician and live performer, recording and arranging for artists such as Jesse Williams, Jennifer Femme, and Josh Chicoine.
As a teenager, Asher started writing and producing electronic music. She spent her high school years writing, recording, and performing her own music and the music of others. She was drawn to artists who blurred the lines between pop and avant-garde culture and sought to make music in the same way.
She began her studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2016, studying cello performance with Alexander Ezerman and composition with Mark Engebretson, Alejandro Rutty, and Lisa Bielawa; she graduated with a Bachelor of Music in 2020. She relocated to Chicago in 2021, where she studied composition with Christopher Wendell Jones at DePaul University.
She is an active performer and enjoys the process of rehearsing and performing with others. She writes and produces music across various genres, and loves interacting with the art of those around her. In her free time, she likes browsing Wikipedia, sampling perfumes, talking with friends and strangers, and staring out windows.
Asher is currently working on a commission for Ear Taxi Festival, to be premiered in October 2025.
